Stefan van Staveren of Xylem Inc. was on site last week for a hardworking - get it done - one day cabinet install at the Barter House. I guess Carolina grads are actually good at something!
As you can see in the photograph of him - he was still having muscle memory lapses stemming back to the day we moved all of the Brazilian Walnut flooring to the job site.
If you’re in North Carolina and looking for a cabinet maker or millwork specialist - check out Xylem… you couldn’t find a more knowledgeable, dedicated and personable group of guys.
Bob Stockford of Inside Trim was onsite all of last week performing his trim magic on the barter house stairs. Although there were several other trades constantly going up & down the stairs - he kept a positive attitude and kept on going.
My father even had the opportunity to pick Bob’s brain & help out with the clamps!
Just as the title suggests, the low voltage wiring for the barter house is part do-it-yourself, part barter and mostly bought on eBay.
There will be about 2,000 feet of speaker cable in the walls, probably 4,000+ feet of cat5/cat6 and another 4,000 feet of quad-shielded rg6…. oh yeah and about 5,000 feet of the high voltage stuff (romax) too. I had to melt down about 300,000 pennies in order to get that much copper (follow me?) between the studs.
The Barter House signed up with Carolina Cable & Network Systems Inc. out of Apex, NC to do the install. Connected NC will be creating a new website for the firm in the next few weeks. Thanks to Steve and his boys for going the extra mile (1 mile = 5,280 feet).
Everyone knows that the guy who owns a truck is the first person you call when you need to move something. It just so happens the guy I know with a truck has a 22-footer usually filled with cabinets. Two weekends ago, Stefan was kind enough to give up his Sunday and help me move the barter house flooring over to the site. We were optimistic and thought we would be able to knock it out pretty quickly… 9 hours later we unloaded the last board of Brazilian walnut flooring.
He once said that my wife and I are two of the most genuine and immediately likable people that he’s ever met. The feeling is definitely mutual. Thanks Stefan for helping our dream become a reality!
