The last post mentioned it was game time and indeed it is. I apologize for not posting in like 2 weeks, but I haven’t had the chance to sit down and write. I spent this last week away from work to get through the checklist. My father & step-mom came down from Cleveland to help and we made a lot of progress! Thank you guys.
The Brazilian Walnut flooring was laid by a local installer about a week and half ago. The flooring pretty much runs throughout the house with the exception of the full baths. The installers misinterpreted the Butler’s Pantry for a bathroom so there are still a few more planks to lay.
I initially thought that I would attempt the install while my pops was down - I’m glad we didn’t try as it took a group of 8 guys 3 days to install… not to mention it saved me from moving the flooring for a 3rd time.

We purchased the Brazilian Walnut flooring awhile back in 2 deliveries. The second delivery showed up with 3″ planks vs. the 4.5″ planks we originally purchased. To utilize this second set - we have specified which rooms in the house we could use them in without running into issues as they are not the same depth. The images attached show which size goes where. All flooring will run front-to-back (opposite of the joists below), with the exception of the upper landing/hall which will run left-to-right.

Everyone knows that the guy who owns a truck is the first person you call when you need to move something. It just so happens the guy I know with a truck has a 22-footer usually filled with cabinets. Two weekends ago, Stefan was kind enough to give up his Sunday and help me move the barter house flooring over to the site. We were optimistic and thought we would be able to knock it out pretty quickly… 9 hours later we unloaded the last board of Brazilian walnut flooring.
He once said that my wife and I are two of the most genuine and immediately likable people that he’s ever met. The feeling is definitely mutual. Thanks Stefan for helping our dream become a reality!

Weeks ago we cleaned out the warehouse when we ordered nearly 10,000 lbs. of flooring. At the time we thought it would be enough because we would tile the bathrooms, the laundry room and carpet the kids’ room. Think again. We decided to be consistent throughout. We’re going for hardwoods in the baths (call us crazy) and we’ll throw down a rug in the kids’ room for some extra padding.
We met the delivery truck mid-day on Thursday <Happy Valentine’s Day> and had to unload the pallet by hand onto the sidewalk (a neighbor was moving and he was not willing to share the drive). It didn’t take too long to unload, but carrying 2,000 lbs. around the side and into the garage made this barter house man take an afternoon nap!
I wonder… will we be seeing anymore R+L trucks in our future?
